Feeling kinda blank today

I sit here wanting to write something but my mind is really blank.  Not sure why that would be since over the last few days I have had a whole host of things going through my mind.  Things ranging from political to personal, from important to completely random and unimportant and from the straight forward to the esoteric.  The truth is that I think I am blank now because i hit some sort of pressure switch that just turned everything off.  I have been dragging a bit in that I have not been able to work out lately.  With Christine working a lot lately, I have been taking care of a lot of things that need to get done around here as well as still trying to figure out the job situation.  That alone has been a heavy weight.  With the current work situation, there has also been the money situation that has been quite worrisome.  I haven’t been to the gym and I haven’t been working on my needlepoint projects either.  By the end of the day, I am usually just so beat that I don’t feel like doing any of it.

I sounds like I have been down, which I don’t feel, but the truth is that while I have been getting a lot of areas on my life together, I still need to do a better job of taking care of myself.  I have a great support structure.  I have to give myself a little bit of a break, but that seems to have been the running theme over the last year, hasn’t it.

Things you will and wont find in the Dem Debate…

Via InTheNews…

Things you won’t find at tonight’s Democratic debate:
  • Candidates griping about “political correctness”
  • Candidates demonizing any one ethnic or racial demographic
  • Candidates wanting to take away health care access for women
  • Candidates who want to exclude people from being allowed to marry the ones they love
  • Candidates who want to shove their religious beliefs down your throat
  • Candidates who want to stick their penises into gun barrels because the NRA tells them to
Things you will likely hear about in the Democratic debate:
  • Climate change
  • Income inequality / wage equity
  • Standing up for the middle class
  • Gun control
  • Addressing racism
  • Student debt reform
  • Prison reform
  • Education reform
  • Railing against Citizens United
  • Gender equality
  • Health care reform
  • Paid family leave
  • Immigration reform
  • “Taking back our government from a handful of billionaires.”

Huckabee and Trump just continue their hateful and racist rants on Twitter.. and I am ashamed of Americans for even considering them to be people worthy of following.

Changes to Playboy

So, Playboy is changing to a non-nude format.  I have to say that I am very surprised about this.  I can see why they want to make this change.  They are trying to appeal to a broader audience.  They say that since they have tamed their website, their average viewer went from 47 years old to 30, which is, by far, a better advertising bracket.  As a 44 year old man, I am in the least desirable advertising bracket.  Now, to be fair, I did have a subscription but that was 15 years ago.  To me, Playboy was never just about the women.  It was a big part, but there was definitely more.  It was also in the mainstream in that it was able to attract legitimate advertisers.  There were celebrities, both famous and infamous and models weren’t just porn stars on a photo shoot.  The magazine tried to keep to, and for the most part stayed at, a higher level then other nudie mags.

Playboy was a victim of its own decisions.  They bought cable stations that were more hard core.  More and more they had started to put out things that were more shocking in comparison to their standard magazine.  I think they saw themselves up against the free internet porn machine that is so readily available to anyone who wants it.  over the last 10 or so years, I don’t think they did enough stand out.  Quite the contrary, they did everything they could to fit right in.  I think if they stayed above the fray of internet porn and focused on being the more sophisticated magazine that was their original goal, they wouldn’t have to make such a drastic change now just to stay relevant.

I would imagine that every man who is about my age and 10 or so years on either side of me has those handful of playmates that stayed with them through the years.  It is a shame that they felt they had to make such a decision, but it is the result of the decisions they made over the last decade.  I think this will right the ship for them, and I hope so, but is the cost too high?

I Love You, Too, William

I was on my computer while my son was on the second computer playing some games.  After a while I didn’t hear the games any more but he was sitting at the computer slowly typing something out.  When he was done, all I heard was, “Daddy…”  I looked up and this was on the computer screen…

Confidence Grows

The next few months are going to be difficult.  We have some big decisions to make and a lot of these decisions revolve around money.  I don’t think we are going to have huge problems. but there will be stress and there will be some tough decisions to make.  I recently heard that friends of ours are in the same boat as we are.  An untimely lay off associated with an extended time of not working.  I was talking to this friend when she said that it got to the point where a bill couldn’t be paid on time and they were so trying to cut expenses that they started to go to bed 2 hours earlier to save on the TV and lights.  It is scary to think in terms of not even being able to keep the lights on.

The real amazing thing is that they are making it work.  They are looking to move to a place that is less expensive, though with the move, the place they get may even be bigger.  Even with the hard times, they are looking to the future and what they can do for others, including adopting a baby and rescuing a dog in need.  They never let their situation affect the long term plan.  They are about helping others and keeping a positive attitude.  They are inspiring to me.  My friend did find a job so things are looking better.  I wish them the best, because they are truly good people and just being around them has me feeling confident in about my own situation.  You can do anything. Attitude is important and the words you use are important.  I smile when I see my friends.  I smile more in general now.

I have been very vocal in my opposition to the current interpretation of the 2nd amendment and I, like the vast majority of Americans feel that there should be more regulations and the ownership of weapons with military grade weaponry being illegal to own for any reason.

I joined a page on Facebook that was posting messages similar to my opinion.  At one point, someone commented that the 2nd Amendment should be repealed.  I politely disagreed by saying that the 2nd doesn’t necessarily have to be repealed, but rather it has to be reinterpreted closer to the original purpose, and not the relatively recent interpretation that the 2nd is pretty much a weapon ownership free-for-all.   So we agreed in principle, but not on the finer points.

That little disagreement was enough to get me banned from the site.  I wasn’t rude, or condescending, I just disagreed.  As a matter of fact, the one person who responded to me seemed very upset and what she had posted seemed like a non-sequitur to what I had posted and I even mentioned that it seems that there might have been a post that was deleted since the response didn’t really relate to my post.

I get that people don’t want their pages to turn ugly, but in this case, I didn’t so anything rude, but I was the one banned.  People, it seems, from both sides just was an echo chamber and yes-men around them.. how dare anyone disagree, even on the fine points.  So ridiculous.
